Tenby is the perfect way to kick off a road trip around Pembrokeshire. With three beaches, a harbour lined with beautiful, pastel-coloured houses and a vast range of independent cafes and restaurants, you could easily spend an entire day here, but it is certainly worth dedicating a morning of your road trip here.

2.       Pembroke Castle

After visiting Tenby, you might want to make your next stop Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VII. The castle’s impressive structure and exciting exhibitions make this location great for all ages.

3.       Haverfordwest

Haverfordwest is the buzzing county town of Pembrokeshire and there is plenty to see and do here. Check out the local history in the town museum, situated within the remains of Haverfordwest Castle, or stroll along the riverside. If you choose a Friday to visit, be sure to go the award-winning Haverfordwest Farmers Market, which has a range of fish, meat, vegetables, cheeses and cakes to offer.

Haverfordwest is also the perfect place to stop for a night during your road trip, with plenty hotels, B&Bs and campsites in the area.

4.       Skomer Island

After visiting the centre of the town, why not branch out a bit further in Haverfordwest, to Skomer Island? A thirty-minute drive will bring you to Lockley Lodge and from there, you will be able to hop on a boat to the island. Skomer Island is the perfect attraction for wildlife enthusiasts, home to seabirds, seals, rabbits, birds of prey, and the area is particular popular for its puffin colony, which is one of Britain’s largest.

5.       Druidston Haven

The Pembrokeshire coast boasts a range of fantastic beaches, one of which is Druidston Haven. The long stretch of sand enclosed by steep cliffs is the ideal place to go for a peaceful walk.

6.       St Davids

After stretching your legs and enjoying the sea air at Druidston Haven, it’s time to get back in the car to drive slightly further north to St Davids, the smallest city in Britain. You will find plenty to do in this vibrant location, from visiting the stunning St Davids Cathedral, to going on a rigged-hulled inflatable boat wildlife watching trip, on which you could be lucky enough to see some whales and dolphins.

St Davids is another great place to rest your head after a day of travelling, offering a number of hotels, guesthouses and campsites, as well as some excellent places to eat.

7.       Fishguard

If you want to try your hand at some water sports, there’s nowhere better in Wales to do it than Fishguard. Whether you are a novice or an expert, you will love exploring the caves and coves of Fishguard Bay by kayak.

After your adventure along the calm waters of the bay, make your way to the town hall, where you can see the famous 100ft long Last Invasion Tapestry, which tells the story of the last time that the British mainland was invaded in 1797.

8.       Cardigan

To finish off an exceptional road trip, visit the stunning Cardigan Bay. This picturesque town has so much to offer, including sandy beaches, a variety of wildlife and quirky marketplaces. Without a doubt, one of the most popular things to experience here is the bottlenose dolphins, a sight not to be missed!

Further into the town, you can find Cardigan Castle, which is fun for all the family, as well as plenty of shopping opportunities. There is an abundance of independent shops in the area, as well as the Cardigan Guildhall Market, with over thirty stalls, offering all sorts of goods, like fresh produce, souvenirs, household goods and much more!
